
Who was Edward Bruce?
Edward Bruce was a notable historical figure from the early 14th century. He was the younger brother of Robert the Bruce, who was the King of Scots. Edward played a significant role in supporting his brother during the struggle for the Scottish crown from 1306 to 1314.
In 1315, Edward Bruce embarked on a campaign in Ireland, where he was proclaimed High King of Ireland in 1316. His military efforts, known as the Bruce Invasion, aimed to challenge the Anglo-Norman lordship of Ireland. Despite initial successes, his campaign ultimately ended in defeat. Edward Bruce was killed in the Battle of Faughart in 1318.
Edward’s actions had a lasting impact on the history of both Scotland and Ireland, contributing to the complex relationship between the two nations.
