How many children did Robert the Bruce have?
Robert was married twice in his life. With his first wife, Isabella of Mar, he had a daughter Marjorie, from whom the Stewart dynasty was to trace its lineage. His second wife was Elizabeth de Burgh, with whom he had five children – Margaret, Matilda, David, John (who died in infancy) and Elizabeth.
David II of Scotland: He succeeded his father as king.
John: He died young.
Margaret: Married William de Moravia, 5th Earl of Sutherland.
Matilda: Married Thomas Isaac, Lord of Douglas.
Marjorie: Married Walter Stewart, 6th High Steward of Scotland.
Elizabeth: Her details are lesser-known.
These children carried on the Bruce lineage and contributed to Scotland’s history.
